Mandate

To promote and foster the upgradation of the stock of well qualified, highly specialized scientists, engineers and technologists for R&D in all disciplines of Science & Technology in the country

To have an integrated approach to National Human Resource Development for Science, Engineering & Technology by encouraging and promoting research in the Universities and Institutes of higher learning

To invest in basic and interdisciplinary research that is harbinger of the ‘high-tech’ and technology of tomorrow.

Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prizes (SSB), CSIR Young Scientist Awards (YSA) and G N Ramachandran Gold Medal

Fellowships:
Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) through National Eligibility Test (NET); Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowships (SPMF), JRF to GATE/GPAT qualified candidates, Senior Research Fellowships (SRF),  Research Associateship (RA) and Senior Research Associateship (SRA);  CSIR-Nehru Science Postdoctoral Research Fellowships

Grants:
Funding of Extra Mural Research (EMR) schemes at universities/ R&D organizations; Emeritus Scientist Scheme for superannuated scientists.

Partial Travel grants to research scholars and Financial Assistance to organize national/internation Conference/Symposium in India;
