Activity at Glance

Human Resource Development Group of CSIR has been contributing significantly towards producing an ‘inquiring society’. The various programmes and activities of the Group relate to: Identifying budding talent having aptitude and aspirations to work for the generation of new knowledge and technology; Funding of extra mural research; Development of S&T manpower; Nurturing young talents; Promoting excellence through awards and honors; and Encouraging interaction among scientists.

These programmes cover a wide range of S&T disciplines and age groups and are undertaken through a true Team India partnership i.e., with active involvement and participation of eminent scientists and experts from academia, industrial R&D units, S&T departments, etc. The highlights of various schemes evolved by the Group over the years are given below:

 Bhatnagar Fellowship

The Fellowship will be awarded to leading Indian Scientists/ Technologists in recognition of their ongoing impactful scientific and/or technological contributions, particularly during last 10 years, as evidenced through publications ,patents, transfer of technology, honours, awards etc. Overseas Citizen of India(OCI) and Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) working in India are also eligible . The awardee is expected to associates with a mission of thurst area program of CSIR or an area of interest to CSIR.

The Bhatnagar fellowship will be full time R&D engagement.It shall not be considered as re-employment. 

The nominations of scientists and technologists would be received throughout the year.

The annual grant shall upto the ceiling of  Rs. 40 lakh, and Research Project Grant shall be upto the ceiling of Rs 25 lakh per annum, which shall be appraised by the search-cum-selection committee for the budget and other resource requirement.

For  Retired awardees drawing pension, the  amount of  Fellowship shall be equivalent to the  Apex scale at the level of Secretary to  the  GOI after  adjusting the pension.

For  awardees who Retired withoout receiving pension, the amount of fellowship shall be equivalent to the Apex scale at the level of Secretary to Goverment of India.

For awardees in service, the Fellowship of  Rs. 50,000 per month over and above the existing salary will be provided.
